This glossary is for the class of heat transfer, and it´s designated to be the homework for the reading comprehension for this week.

As for another differential equation, the solution is given by boundary and initial conditions. With regard to the boundary conditions, there are several common possibilities that are simply expressed in mathematical form.
Example: Because the heat equation is second order in the spatial coordinates, to describe a heat transfer problem completely, two boundary conditions must be given for each direction of the coordinate system along which heat transfer is significant.

the relative power of a surface to emit heat by radiation : the ratio of the radiant energy emitted by a surface to that emitted by a blackbody at the same temperature
Example: the emissivity help us to find if someone has high temperature due to covid 19

is a partial differential equation that describes the distribution of heat (or the temperature field) in a given body over time. Detailed knowledge of the temperature field is very important in thermal conduction through materials. Once this temperature distribution is known
Example: These problems are more complex than the planar analyses we did in previous sections. Therefore these problems will be the subject of this section, in which the heat conduction equation will be introduced and solved.

Heat flux

Heat flux is the thermal energy transferred from one substance to another per unit time and area denoted by temperature change measured in watts per meter squared units. In simple terms, it is the heat transferred per unit area.
Example: Once this temperature distribution is known, the conduction heat flux at any point in the material or on its surface may be computed from Fourier’s law.

the act of protecting something by surrounding it with material that reduces or prevents the transmission of sound or heat or electricity
Example: The high temperatures of 650°C - 700°C may still be enough to damage INSULATION and anneal the conductor though.

is defined as the energy associated with the random, disordered motion of molecules. It is separated in scale from the macroscopic ordered energy associated with moving objects

thermal conductivity

refers to the intrinsic ability of a material to transfer or conduct heat. It is one of the three methods of heat transfer, the other two being convection and radiation. Heat transfer processes can be quantified in terms of appropriate rate equations. The rate equation in this heat transfer mode is based on Fourier’s law of heat conduction.

Thermal diffusivity is the thermal conductivity divided by density and specific heat capacity at constant pressure. It measures the ability of a material to conduct thermal energy relative to its ability to store thermal energy. High diffusivity means heat transfers rapidly.
Example: Even as the less popular of the two heat transfer measurements, thermal diffusivity still plays an important role in influencing the movement and behavior of heat.

thermal symmetry exist when there are some cases with symmetry in imposed thermal conditions. thus means the temperature distribution in one half of the plate is the same as that in the other half.
Example: That is, the heat transfer problem in this plate possesses thermal symmetry about the center plane at x = L/2.

A broad or deep part of a specified thing. A layer of a specified material. The distance through an object, as distinct from width or height.
Example: Length of the cantilever, Distance of strain gauges from fixed end of cantilever, THICKNESS of cantilever, Width of cantilever, The strain produced at the strain gauges if a force is applied to the cantilever can be written in terms of the force, F.

adjective
to describe something that always changes or moves around is most often used to modify nouns like nature, threat, source and cause, which suggests that the word often shows up in formal contexts, like analysis of finance or global terrorism. But it can also be used for anything that moves quickly from one thing to another
Example: If your older brother is constantly moving from city to city, you can say he's transient.
